Gisele Bündchen breaks silence on rumoured split from Tom Brady
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen has broken her silence on the rumoured “rough patch” her marriage to NFL star Tom Brady has hit over the last few months.
The couple – who have been married for 13 years and share two children – have been dogged by reports of a rift over the Tampa Bay Buccanneers quarterback’s decision in March to walk back his retirement.
While she declined to address the more recent speculation, in an interview accompanying her October cover of Elle the 42-year-old model acknowledged there had been back-and-forth over Brady’s career.
“Obviously, I have my concerns – this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” she said.
“I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

While Bündchen said she ultimately wants Brady to be happy, she agreed with the writer of the Elle piece that any portrayal of her being “desperate” for him to retire reads as sexist.
“I think this is the system we’ve been living in,” she said.
“That’s what society has accepted and what society hasn’t accepted.”
She added that she’d “done my part, which is [to] be there for [Tom]”.
“I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams,” she said.
“Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little humans that they are, seeing him succeed, and being fulfilled in his career – it makes me happy. At this point in my life, I feel like I’ve done a good job on that.”
Bündchen said she feels “very fulfilled in that way, as a mother and as a wife”.
“And now it’s going to be my turn. It’s not like I’m going to be in the valley forever.”
Elle’s interview with Bündchen was conducted prior to the couple’s apparent falling out – with reports emerging a fortnight ago that the model had “fled” the family’s Florida home for Costa Rica.
“There’s been trouble in the marriage over his decision to un-retire. Gisele has always been the one with the kids,” a source told Page Six.
“They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”
Page Six reports Bündchen is now believed to be in New York City, where she sent Brady well wishes for his season opener on Tuesday, tweeting: “Let’s go @TomBrady! Let’s go Bucs!”
A source noted that the model “never” goes to the first game of the season.
