Godolphin filly In Secret chasing history in Golden Rose

Godolphin gun In Secret’s quest to become just the second filly to win the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill was boosted after she drew perfectly for Saturday’s three-year-old main event.

In Secret will jump from barrier three in a near capacity field of 17-runners for the spring feature.

The James Cummings-trained filly is one of three Godolphin contenders for the Golden Rose alongside the Ming Dynasty winner Golden Mile (barrier 11) and the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Daumier (7).

In Secret was the $3.50 favourite before the final field was declared on the strength of her dominant win in the Group 2 Run To The Rose earlier this month.

But the I Am Invincible filly will have to defy history to win the main event.

As it stands Forensics is the only filly to win the Golden Rose and she won the race in 2008 when it was staged in March in a season impacted by the equine influenza.

Leading rider James McDonald will take over the steer on In Secret with Tommy Berry linking up with Champagne Stakes winner She’s Extreme (6).

In total four fillies will line up in the $1m event.

Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce Stakes victor Fireburn (16) is joined by the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Paris Dior (14).

Fireburn’s classy stablemate Sejardan (eight) will also contest the race for Gary Portelli.

Impressive Group 3 McNeil Stakes winner Jacquinot (five) headlines the Victorian raiders and jockey Damian Lane will be aided by a strong draw.

Peter Moody’s Millane (four) and the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Fast Witness (10) are also poised to make the journey up from down south.

Golden Slipper runner up Best Of Bordeaux has drawn the inside but trainer Kacy Fogden is waiting to confirm a rider with Hugh Bowman fighting a suspension for failing to ride one out last weekend.

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has accepted with two runners have they’ve drawn side-by-side with Basquiat (12) and Political Debate to his outside.
